Philip Astley Poetry Competition

As a lead up to this years AstleyFest 2021 Live and online event we are launching the Philip Astley Children’s Poetry Competition.

The Children’s Poetry Competition is for ages 7 – 11 who are invited to write a poem about Newcastle-under-Lyme born Philip Astley and his creation – The Circus. The poem can be about Philip Astley, his birthplace, military career, his circus, the legacy of his circus and where it is today, about his wife Patti Astley or even about a performer in the show, maybe you could be the performer too!

Once you have written your poem send it to Poet Laureate Mel Wardle Woodend: melwoodendwriting@gmail.com

The winner’s poem will feature in AstleyFest 2021

Closing Date: 5pm – Friday 16th July 2021.
