Andrew Van Buren represents The Philip Astley project in Monte Carlo

Andrew Van Buren has recently represented The Philip Astley Project in Monte Carlo at the Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo.

The international illusionist & showman was invited to be involved in the unveiling of the permanent Monte Carlo tribute to Philip Astley- born in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The tribute to Philip Astley was unveiled by HSH Albert II Prince of Monaco and Princess Stephanie of Monaco in January.

“It was such an honor for me to be invited to meet the Royal Family of Monaco, and that they agreed to unveil this wonderful tribute. Many thanks to Festival International du Cirque de Monte-Carlo, The Fédération Mondiale du Cirque and European Circus Association for making this lasting tribute to the Father of Modern Circus possible”.- Andrew Van Buren.

During the opening of the Monte- Carlo Circus Festival, the private unveiling was an event attended by the key players marking Philip Astley’s importance to the world of circus, culture and the arts.

“After years of campaigning, I am so pleased that at last Philip Astley’s name is coming to the forefront of history again, not only in his birthplace of Newcastle-under-Lyme but also on the world stage. For the circus industry and for his birthplace, Philip Astley is our Shakespeare.”

Philip Astley is our Shakespeare.

“This wonderful permanent tribute to Philip Astley & his work in creating the modern day circus 250 years ago is of great importance. It is not only important to the circus industry past, present & future, but it should point greater awareness to his birthplace of Newcastle-under-Lyme”. – Andrew Van Buren
